The totswapshop is built around osCommerce v2.2 RC1 with PHP 5.2 language, MySQL 5.0 database and Dojo toolkit for AJAX web 2 Java. The template designing of this site is tableless and CSS driven. The website is compatible with IE 8, IE 7, Firefox 3 and above browsers. The payment gateway we have integrated is Authorize.net and we have used FedEx for shipping module. The portal has multiple layers of security as the portal contains crucial personal information.
This ecommerce site is based on a unique points system. The users get to swap products for the points they are rewarded. The site sells kids merchandize on the basis of points gained each time the user creates a page for an item.
It’s an online shopping cart which will allow the users to exchange or swap the children’s ‘used’ goods or new goods. The buying and selling of goods will take place with the help of a specially devised ‘point-based’ system. The system maintains the point and currency relationship. The revenue is to be generated from the selling of goods as a percentage of each transaction, direct selling of points to users and advertisements.
There are primarily two types of users of the portal namely general public user and the admin user. The users can register themselves for free on the site to avail the facility of swapping of goods. Every user will be provided some points to spend. The registered users can perform two main activities i.e. buying and selling of goods. So there are two dedicated sections for each of these activities, selling area and buying area.
User can search products with various criteria like categories, age, location, point, conditions and he or she can buy the goods with points + shipping cost. We have integrated Google adsense advertisements on Side Bar. To enable users to make payments, the portal is integrated with Paypal.
After registration user can view or edit profile and can manage points. The value of the item is determined by the ‘points’ and not by the currency, and maintaining of the current points status for every user is required. The user can create a wish list - it can be for existing items or not currently on offer. When a seller uploads an item that matches with this item, the buyer is notified immediately.
There is a shipping calculator that is an integration of the portal with the shipping system. We have integrated different shipping methods like USPS, UPS, FEDEX, DHL (domestic only) to calculate approximate cost of an item. We have also integrated FEDEX label to create shipping labels so that product owner can ship products to the buyer. There are options to select buyer pays, seller pays, buyer picks up, and seller picks up.

- We have created point management system on the site so that product owner can set products price in terms of points. Buyer will have to purchase points on the site to buy any product.
- Have created Refer a friend module so that whenever user refers any body and if the referred person joins the site, the referrer will get some points as per admin settings.
- We have created wishlist module so that customers can manage their own wishlist and share it with their friends. We have also created watch list, user can add products which they like and when those products are available on site, the buyer will be notified.
- Have created manage profile module for users so that sellers can upload their logo and can write some thing about themselves.
- Have created rating function for users so that users can rate each other for services.
- Have created Age, Location-based product search module.
- We have installed FedEx shipping module to create shipping labels so that product owner can ship products to the buyer.
- Have created a module so that user can purchase points by paying admin through credit card.
- Have provided options so that buyer can send a message to the product owner. Created SEO URLs on the site and removed oscid form the URLs. To increase SEO ranking.
